INTRODUCTION: The Duke RUOFUS Gym located 3 blocks north of National Avenue, on the southwest corner of 1st and Virginia, in historic Walkers Point. The gym is conveniently located 2 minutes south of Downtown Milwaukee and the I-94 & I-794 Expressways.
The Duke RUOFUS Gym offers specialized group classes and private lessons in contemporary Kickboxing (based on Muaythai, the 700 year old national sport of Thailand) and the "sweet science" of Boxing.
Students from all walks of life train together, each with a slightly different goal or objective. Among them are:
• Exercise to lose weight/get in better shape;
• Tone up;
• Reduce stress;
• Add something new and exciting to the exercise mix;
• Additional conditioning for cross training;
• "Always wanted to try" Kickboxing/Boxing;
• Someday compete in the ring.
STAFF: Head Instructor is 4-Time World Heavyweight Kickboxing Champion Duke RUOFUS. Duke is regarded as one of the most knowledgeable, technically proficient Kickboxer and trainer in the world. Duke has been involved in the Martial Arts and Kickboxing community since he was 4 years old. He has created a training system that anyone can utilize, from true beginners to ring veterans alike, everyone learns together and practices at their own level and ability. Our other instructors are all champions in their own right as well.
FACILITY DESCRIPTION: The gym is over 8,000 sq. ft. and filled with the best, most durable, professional grade training equipment available in the world. We have over 20 :, speed bag, Thai Uppercut Station and Pole Bag, 18' professional Boxing ring, plus much more. We also supply top quality, leather punch mitts and Thai pads for student use.
Locker rooms and showers are available for students, as are free weights and an assortment of other training and conditioning apparatus. The gym and equipment may be used during all "open" times. Ample free parking is also available at our location.
The Duke RUOFUS Gym offers ONE HOUR classes in Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced level Kickboxing and Boxing 6 days a week. The gym is closed Sundays. Average class size is 14 students, 60% male, 40% female. Our student's average age is 27 years old. Students can start at any time and go "at their own pace." Students advance to the Intermediate level once the instructor feels the student has achieved an understanding of the basics taught in the Beginner Kickboxing and/or Boxing class. And remember - Students at the Duke RUOFUS Gym NEVER have to spar if they prefer not to. Advanced level students may spar with proper and approved equipment.
MUAYTHAI - ALL LEVELS: The basis for the Duke RUOFUS Gym's Kickboxing program is the 700 year old national sport of Thailand, the powerful, yet beautiful, art of Muaythai.
Muaythai incorporates the use of shins, knees, punches and elbows, combined in multifaceted combinations that have proven to be an extremely successful fighting style for many different types of ringsport athletes. It also makes for one great workout. You'll sweat like you never have before after taking one of our exhilarating classes. This is the same workout the Pro and Amateur Kickboxers go through, now you can too - without the hard contact or sparring.
BOXING - ALL LEVELS: Discover the "sweet science" in Duke RUOFUS Gym's Boxing Program. We'll start you off with the basics and you determine how far you want to go. Our extremely talented staff will break every punch and step down for you in a positive manner that promotes self-esteem and correct technique. Remember, you'll never have to spar if that's not what you are looking for. Our Boxing class is an excellent cardio and physical workout that produces quantifiable results without question.
KIDS PROGRAM: Children, ages 6 and up, are welcome to join in on the excitement at the Duke RUOFUS Gym 3 days a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The "Kids Class" is a blend of Boxing and Kickboxing, taught to the students as a "sport" that is NEVER to be used outside the ring. The class encourages the student to never give less that their "best" effort and that is all that is expected from them. The students only play "spar" with their instructors, never each other. Where else can your child get in the ring and "beat up" a 4-Time World Champion?
PRIVATE LESSONS: Private Lessons are available in packages of 8, 25, 50 and 100 to members of the Duke RUOFUS Gym. You can custom tailor the lessons to your exact needs to best help you reach your goals.
