Tuesday, April 18, 2006 (Milwaukee, WI USA) Giuseppe DeNatale Wins World Muaythai Title: Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada's pride and joy Giuseppe "The Godfather" DeNatale won the I.K.F. World Muaythai Heavyweight Title this past Saturday, April 15th in his own hometown when he decked Glasgow, Scotland's 6-Time World Kickboxing Champion "The Lion Rampant" Duncan Airlie James for the third time at 1:53 into the 3rd round of their scheduled 5 Round Title bout, thus forcing Referee Al Wichgers to stop the contest as the crowd of over 3,500 roared with approval.
The title fight was the featured bout of the evening on the Gladiators Fighting Series "Colosseum of Champion" Triple Style fight card presented by King John Promotions along with C.K.M.T.C. at the Winnipeg Convention Centre. Kickboxing, Mixed Martial Arts and Boxing were all featured, marking a "first" in Manitoba's long sports history.
The Godfather's Kickboxing Coach, Milwaukee's Duke RUOFUS, beamed with pride watching his apt pupil don his first World Title belt as presented to him by I.K.F. President Steve Fossum. To celebrate his World Championship, Giuseppe sprayed the crowd with champagne, stopping only momentarily to savor the taste of victory himself, bubbly and blood dripping from both combatants.
Each fighter's shins cracked open like the Grand Canyon after a 3rd round bone-to-bone collision. Forced to block out the pain from his gaping wound, The Godfather did what he does best, "refuse to lose."
If kicks couldn't do the trick, then a few atomic bombs from DeNatale's hands surley would. But one of Scotland's all-time best proved to be a tough comer, beating the count twice before finally secumbing to The Godfather's onslaught as Winnipeg's entire Italian community went berzerk for their boy, the new world champ!
Congratulations to Giuseppe DeNatale and Coach Duke RUOFUS on your tremendous accomplishment in winning the I.K.F. World Muaythai Heavyweight Title.
It is something many will dream about, few will attempt and you have achieved.

UFC'S BONNAR SCORES VICTORY ON SPIKETV: Stephan "The American Psycho" Bonnar, UFC star and runner-up on SpikeTV's hit reality show "The Ultimate Fighter - Season One," pulled out a unamimous decision victory over a tough and mean Keith Jardine on SpikeTV's "Ultimate Fight Night 4," broadcast live Thursday, April 6th from "The Joint" inside the Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas.
Bonnar gave credit to his coaches, which include Duke RUOFUS, who attended the show's taping and worked the winner's corner. Residing in nearby Hammond, Illinois, Bonnar often trains with Duke and the fighters on the Duke RUOFUS Academy competition team in Milwaukee.
During the show, it was easy to see the familiar DRG logo prominently displayed on the front side of the "Psycho's" fight shorts.
Stephan Bonnar is not only a tough, tenatious, exciting fighter, he is also a class individual who takes time to recognize those around him who help him succeed. It is easy to see why he has become a huge sensation in the UFC and ultimate fan favorite! As they say, "Go, Psycho!"

Former academy instructor Ben Dauck, now fighting out of Hinsdale, Illinois' Team Toro, was impressive as always on his way to winning the Gladiators Welterweight Kickboxing title with a third round TKO (left) over a solid Toby Grear of Columbus, Ohio.
MMA veteran and Duke RUOFUS/Pat Miletich trained Ben Rothwell of Kenosha, Wisconsin, used a barrage of punches to force his opponent Joey Smith of Hilliard, Ohio into submission midway through the first round to stay undefeated in MMA Gladiators Colosseum action.
Duke RUOFUS Mixed Martial Arts Head Instructor Brandon Adamson (right) sharpened his Kickboxing and stand-up skills, putting them to good work in his second round TKO victory over Rochester, New York's talented Keith Nesbitt. While MMA is his specialty, Brandon showed he's serious about being an excellent, all-around fighter with a win in his first ever Gladiators Kickboxing bout.
Duke RUOFUS Kids Class Head Instructor Kyle Weickhardt (left with Green Bay Packers legend Gilbert Brown, who attended the show) and fellow teammate Dan Downes each went the distance in their Kickboxing bouts and took home Unanimous Decision victories for their efforts.
Duke RUOFUS MMA fighter Dan LaSavage defeated his opponent 2:21 into the opening round via the proven rear naked choke.

On Wednesday, February 9th Duke RUOFUS Fight Team members K-1 fighter Pat Barry, Kyle Weickhardt and Adam VanderVeen travel to Bettendorf, Iowa with Head Coach Duke RUOFUS (at right, with Jens Pulver) to rendezvous with fellow fighters Brandon Adamson, Dan LaSavage, Ben Rothwell and Chris Trautsch.
This is great preparation for the fighters who are competiting on the Gladiators Fighting Series 10 Year Anniversary show "X - Decade in the Making," on Friday, February 24th in Milwaukee.
Former Duke RUOFUS Fight Team standout Ben Dauck traveled from his new home in Hinsdale, (IL) to represent Team Toro (thanks for wearing the DRG shirt Ben, always classy).
Their Iowa destination? The fabled Miletich Fighting Systems school for some spirited sparring and camaraderie. They got more than their share of both, as Pat Miletich (at left, far left with Ben Rothwell and Duke) and his crew laid out the welcome mat along with some UFC "as real as it gets" come-and-get-it style sparring.
Besides sparring, Duke held pads for Jens Pulver and Tim Silvia, giving them some pointers in Muaythai and stand-up fighting. "It is great to work these Champions," said Duke. "They want learn everything they can to improve their game. That's what makes Miletich Fighting Systems a great team!"
Everyone had a great time as a gracious Pat Miletich and his team stuck around for a while and everyone shared some great conversation and memories, plus talk of the RUOFUS team returning on a weekly basis for the next few weeks.
Coach Miletich said, "It was great to see the guys adjusting to each others styles, a great learning experience for all."
Team Miletich and the Duke RUOFUS Academy have formed an alliance and plan to exchange instructors and host additional high end sparring sessions on a regular basis. You don't know who you might see at DRG soon from Miletich Fighting Systems.
Duke RUOFUS Mixed Martial Arts program is part of of the Miletich Fighting Systems affiliate program. Look for Pat Miletich coming up in the future near future for a weekend seminar.
Saturday, February 4, 2006 (Milwaukee, WI USA) - Groysman's Level 3 Performance Impresses: February 2006 Level Testing was held this past Thursday and Saturday, February 2nd and 4th at the Duke RUOFUS Kickboxing, Mixed Martial Arts & Boxing Academy. It was exciting for all gathered to see the level of talent that is about to graduate into the Intermediate Level.
Gino Groysman went eight tough rounds on the way to passing his Level 3 Muaythai Kickboxing test with flying colors on Saturday morning.
Assistant Coach Jon "Pee Wee'" Costello had his hands full during the sparring portion of the exam as Groysman landed some nice jabs and well placed kicks, while showing a solid grasp of ring movement and defense.
It was an excellent performance for sure, but then again that's what you would expect from someone who diligently shows up and trains hard every day possible. Kudos Gino on a job well done.
Head Coach Duke RUOFUS was extremely impressed by all of the students who tested, all demonstrated that they were indeed ready to take their game to the next level. Congratulations to all of the Level Testing graduates who passed their skills competency exams in February 2006.
Special thanks to Duke RUOFUS Academy Coaches Scott Cushman and Jon Costello for assisting with the February 2006 Level Testing sessions.

Friday, January 20, 2006 (Las Vegas, NV USA) Bonnar and Duke Live on SpikeTV - When Stephan "The American Psycho" Bonnar, UFC star and runner-up on SpikeTV's hit reality show "The Ultimate Fighter - Season One" fought this past Monday night on the UFC's live special event, Ultimate Fight Night, his Kickboxing coach Duke RUOFUS was right there alongside him.
Bonnar faced off against a tough James Irvin in one of the show's featured bouts broadcast across the globe from the jam packed Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel & Casino's hip venue "The Joint." Also in Bonnar's corner was Carlson Gracie of the legendary Gracie Jiu-Jitsu family.
With two of the best coaches he could surround himself with, Bonnar went to work quickly and submitted Irvin by "Kimura" armlock near the end of the first round.
Duke noticed a possible kink in Irvin's armour and suggested that Bonnar take him to the ground and work from there. The strategy was a success and Bonnar improved his record to 8-2-0. Afterward, Bonnar graciously thanked Duke for his help during his post fight interview live with UFC television host Joe Rogan ("Fear Factor").
Watch for more of the UFC's "The Ultimate Fighter" on SpikeTV every Monday night at 10:00 p.m. CST.
To see Mixed Martial Arts (and Kickboxing) fighting live in Milwaukee, be sure to attend the Gladiators Fighting Series "X - A Decade in the Making" special 10 Year Anniversary show, Friday, February 24, 2006 in the Ramada Convention Center's Grand Ballroom, 6401 South 13th Street. Sunday, January 8, 2006 (Milwaukee, WI USA) Colletta, Loyola, McNamee Get the Job Done: A very special "thank you" to DRG members Rose Marie Colletta, Enrico Loyola and Kathleen McNamee for the tremendous job they did assisting with a winter clean-up project at the academy.
The trio moved with lightning speed and efficiency, doing the work of 10 people. Kathleen also brought delicious home baked chocolate chip cookies for the group to enjoy in recognition of fellow DRG member Liz Haight's birthday. Now that is nice.
Brian RUOFUS was key in the clutch as Duke's younger brother pitched in to help make quick work of the task. It's also good to see Brian training at the school on a regular basis as his upbeat personality only adds to the positive vibe.
Throughout the years, numerous people have given time and lent their talents to help improve the facility in so many wonderful ways. Regarded as one of the best of it's kind in the world, this distinction is only made possible because of your contributions.
Thank you very much. Each of you (and your efforts) are, and always will be, truly appreciated.
Sunday, January 1, 2006 (Milwaukee, WI USA) - HAPPY NEW YEAR: As a tumultuous 2022 comes to a close and we enter the year 2006 A.D. with hopes of prosperity and well wishes from one and all, every member of the DRG family is asked to take a moment and remember those who's lives were forever changed by the uncontrollable force that is Mother Nature and other fateful natural disasters in the past year.
in September 2022, Hurricane Katrina uprooted K-1 fighter Pat Barry and his entire New Orleans based family. In response, DRG established the Barry Family Fund of which the funds and clothing donated went to help Pat and his family. Other Gulf coast based friends and associates of DRG were also severely affected and they have been in our thoughts ever since.
Many current members (and some past, nice to see you!) took time to attend the 2022 DRG Holiday Party held at the academy on Thursday evening, December 29th. Everyone enjoyed sampling the huge assortment of delicious food and homemade desserts. Once again, thank you to everyone for bringing all of the tasty treats and for popping in to say hi. It was good seeing you all.
Here's to a very happy and healthy New Year to all of our friends near and far. We hope that 2006 brings only the best for you and your family.

Happy 2006: The Duke RUOFUS Academy will be closed this Saturday, December 31st in observance of the New Year's holiday. The school will be open as usual on Monday, January 2, 2006, starting with the adult Kickboxing class at noon.Happy New Year to one and all from the entire DRG family.
Wednesday, December 21, 2022 (Milwaukee, WI USA) - DRG Bids Tweet A Fond Farewell: DRG Instructor and Kickboxing Team member has decided to return with her family to their hometown area in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, with hopes of being back by Christmas. Originally from Saskatoon, they will be residing in the nearby city of Regina.
Char's last day at the school was Tuesday, December 20th and all of the DRG Kickboxing and Boxing members/friends present gave her a warm and heartfelt send off.
Char (at right, on her last day Char poses with fellow DRG Instructor/Fighter Kyle Weickhardt) was presented with a large, bath & bodyworks type gift basket which will come in handy when she's taking a hot soak on those cold Canadian nights. Her parents actually laughed when they overheard someone at the school complaining about the recent bout of freezing temps the Milwaukee area has been hit with! Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Char will be missed, as she made a great addition to the DRG family. Her quick smile and easygoing personality made her a perfect, natural fit.
Through consistency and dedication, Char became a capable fighter and also moved into an important roll at the Academy as the Main Kid's Class Instructor.
Char also assisted with the adult class instruction and helped out whenever asked at off campus events and promotions.
Char hopes to continue her fighter training back home while also looking forward to stepping back into instructing, as she enjoys working with the diverse group of people the sport brings into the mix.
We'll also miss her two sons, Josh (9) and Christian (6) who were Kids Class regulars. It's a safe bet to guess Josh will grow up to be a successful editor/writer type and Christian a multi-talented musician. Or maybe it will end up the other way around.
Regardless, Josh and Christian were always fun, smart kids to have around. When Christian was 5 he asked DRG's Scott Joffe if he wanted to play a game of chess and proceded to pull out a chessboard and set it up, correctly. So they played. And on second thought, Josh could just as easily go into Anthropology/History/Science/etc..., as evidenced by the many interesting books he reads on the subjects.
During this holiday season, the entire Duke RUOFUS Kickboxing & Boxing Academy community wishes Charmaine and her family the very best that life has to offer, with tidings for good health and much happiness in the new year. "Bonne chance."

That's Sergeant Green, Now Drop And Give Me 50!: DRG member SGT Brittany Green recently returned on leave from the U.S. Army
where she had been stationed for 10 weeks of intense Basic Combat Training at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina.
Upon returning, Sergeant Green, 23, mentioned that her Kickboxing training at DRG prior to enlisting really helped in multiple areas, physically and mentally.
In the overall fitness competition Brittany finished third among 60 women, that's the top 5% of her class. She also won her match in Unarmed Combat Training. Good work indeed.
Brittany hopes to go into Army intelligence or security work in the future, but hasn't ruled out other areas of interest, as well. Next stop, Ft. Benning, Georgia for Officer Candidate School. Sounds impressive, and it is.
It's commendable what Brittany has decided to undertake for herself, and if you know Brittany, you know she will do more that just succeed. She will excel, she will stand out, she will achieve, she will accomplish, she will dream, she will realize.
It's nice to see Brittany training again in the gym, even if it's only for a short while. Happy holidays and best wishes on a safe, happy and healthy new year. Show those boys in Georgia how it's done.
Saturday, December 17, 2022 (Milwaukee, WI USA) - December Graduates Impress: December 2022 Level Testing was held this past Thursday and Saturday, December 15th and 17th at the Duke RUOFUS Kickboxing & Boxing Academy. All of those testing brought their best stuff into the ring for their Level 1 or 2 tests, giving it their all until the final bell sounded.
Mike Bellanger had enough energy in his tank to take (and pass) both his Level 1 Kickboxing AND Boxing tests on Thursday. Crystal Boyd RN used her break time from work wisely, quickly fitting in her Level 1 Kickboxing test and then running back to work to finish up her 12 hour Saturday shift. Crystal usually can be found training regularly at the academy alongside her daughter Hillary and is the epitome of a parent leading by example through action and dedication.
Head Coach Duke RUOFUS was impressed by the progress exhibited and the high level of enthusiasm shown by all of the December Level testing graduates. Once again, congratulations to all of the Level Testing graduates who passed their skills competency exams in December 2022.
Special thanks to Coaches Scott Cushman and Charmaine Tweet for assisting with the December 2022 Level Testing sessions.

"The Thrilla" Przybilla visits Winnipeg: When NBA Star Joel Przybilla, center for Portland's Trailblazers and the rest of his teammates visited Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada on Monday, October 24th to take on the Toronto Raptors, Duke RUOFUS, Giuseppe "The Godfather" DeNatale and his son Anthony were there courtside to take in all the action in a game the Blazers won 105-98.
The group were Joel's guests, who also took time to introduce them to a few of the other stars on the team and join in for dinner. Treating everyone like close friends, Joel showed once again why he is one of the most likeable and personable figures in all of professional sports.
In his off season, Joel works out at the Duke RUOFUS Academy, training with head Boxing Instructor Scott Cushman to increase his core strength and agility, and develop greater foot speed.

Tuesday, November 22, 2022 (Milwaukee, WI USA) K-1 Grand Prix Draws Barry to Tokyo: New Orleans native Patrick "Get Hype" Barry, who recently relocated to Milwaukee after the effects of Hurricane Katrina devastated his Louisiana home, was chosen to appear last Saturday, November 19th in the coveted "first fight" of the night bout at Japan's Tokyo Dome on the K-1 World Grand Prix 2022 Final, the sport's most prestigious Kickboxing event.
Barry was "picked" to fight Russian Kyokushin fighter Alexandre Pitchkounov, who had set up his Japan based training camp months earlier. While he had only 3 days to shake off any jet lag from the 18 hour trip, Barry was more than up to the challenge, landing solid body shots and powerful, thrusting low kicks. His lurking overhand right kept Pitchkounov on his toes throughout.
Pitchkounov was a tough comer, tossing some nice high kicks that landed in Pat's face, but he shook them off and pressed on, earning new fans and admirerers along the way. Over 58,000 watched the spectacle live, while another 30 million plus watched on television.
Most would agree that Pat took the first two rounds with the third very close, and the judges almost saw it that way, as well. The match was called a Draw.
Barry's trainer Duke RUOFUS and RUOFUS's business partner Scott Joffe accompanied him on the trip. What they saw was an extravaganza like no other.
The elaborate, multi-million dollar presentation featured everything from 100 foot Roman columns and water blasts to monstrous, retractable steel radio towers and the finalists being brought to the ring in huge cherry picker like buckets 100 feet above the crowd. From start to finish, the K-1 2022 World GP was a sports spectacular beyond reproach.
4-time K-1 World GP Champion Ernesto Hoost also worked Barry's corner and was instrumental in helping put the bout together. The trio met many other stars of the sport including the first ever K-1 World GP Champion Branco Citatic (pictured second from right with Barry, Hoost, RUOFUS and Joffe), who along with Hoost are both wonderful gentlemen and true ambassadors of the sport.
The Japanese K-1 hosts treated the group wonderfully throughout their stay and could not have been nicer or more friendly. It was first class all the way.
Duke and Barry worked the pads (left) in K-1's gorgeous Tokyo gym, a soundproof, glass enclosed training area where many K-1 champions have and will tread, for generations to come.
Watch for Barry's return to the Dome very soon as he represents a new generation of skilled American talent the Japanese fans are so eager to see live. K-1 fans, are you ready to "Get Hype"!!! Patrick Barry is.

After months of matchmaking, planning, coordinating, calling, scheduling, arranging, selling, booking, hiring, designing, ordering, writing, printing, postering, mailing and set-up, the Friday, October 21st Gladiators Fighting Series "Colosseum Returns" Kickboxing & MMA show played to a packed Milwaukee Ramada Convention Center Grand Ballroom sold-out crowd. And what a show it was.
Duke RUOFUS did an amazing job coordinating the seventeen(!) Mixed Martial Arts and Kickboxing bouts that were offered up in the "Colosseum" and included K-1 fighters Pat "Get Hype" Barry who took on Dustin "The Mechanic" Hanning (at left) and MMA Champion Ben "Berzerker" Rothwell. Duke also flew in Justice Smith (6' 8", 266 lbs), Hanning's California based Team Voodoo teammate who was discovered at the August 2022 K-1 tryouts in Las Vegas, to fight the 6' 4", 265 pound Rothwell.
The five hour show started off on time with an exhibition Kickboxing bout featuring Duke RUOFUS Academy's very own Cheryl "Goolab Hin" ("rose with thorns") Clancy (left) and Nass's Martial Arts' Erin Salm.
Cheryl, principal at MIlwaukee's Kosciuszko Middle School of Excellence, would (should) be proud to remind you that she's in her mid 50's and has lost over 140 pounds since she became a cherished member of the DRG family over 4 years ago. In that time, Cheryl has become a certified Kickboxing and USA Boxing Official, completed a week long Muaythai training camp that Duke hosted at the famed Master Toddy's school in Las Vegas and now, getting in the ring for 3 rounds with someone less than half her age. As we say time and time again, Cheryl is a "real life inspiration for all!"
The next Milwaukee Gladiators Fighting Series event "X - A Decade in the Making" will be Friday, February 24, 2006 at the Ramada Convention Center. Tickets for this special 10th anniversary show can be reserved by calling (414) 967-7767.

Hogar in the house!: When it comes to stand-up training for MMA, the Duke RUOFUS Academy is fast becoming the place to be for the serious professional seeking to hone their Kickboxing skill. Such was the purpose that brought UFC star Sam Hogar, who was featured on Spike TV's "The Ultimate Fighter - Season 1" to the school on Friday, October 28th.
UFC star Stephan Bonnar (another first season star of Spike's hit reality series), who has been training regularly with the Duke RUOFUS competition team for the past 6 months, suggested to Hogar (pictured shirtless with Bonnar left) that be should come check out the Midwest's new hotbed for MMA/Kickboxing training.
Fresh off the heals of his KO victory one week earlier over California's Dustin Hanning, K-1 fighter and DRG Instructor Pat Barry also took part in the training and spirited sparring session. Look for things to heat up as more and more notable MMA fighters make their way to Milwaukee's Duke RUOFUS Kickboxing, Boxing & MMA Academy because as they say, "To be the best, you have to train with the best."
Saturday, October 8, 2022 (Milwaukee, WI USA) - Boxrud Surpasses Level Testing Challenge: A spirited group of Duke RUOFUS Academy students took their Kickboxing or Boxing Level Tests on Saturday, October 8, 2022 and passed with flying colors.
Pacing the group was Gail Boxrud, who graduated into Level Two Kickboxing with an active, well executed 5 round testing session administered by Head Coach Duke RUOFUS. Gail's work ethic and commitment to maintaining a consistent training schedule was evident by her solid performance.
Gail makes it a point to attend all DRG classes available to her without fail and is a prime example that actions definitely speak louder than words.
Once again, congratulations to all of the Level Testing graduates who passed their skills competency exams in October 2022. You each brought the commitment and desire necessary to accomplish your goal. Keep up the hard work as you take it to the next level.
Special thanks to Coach Scott Cushman for assisting with the October 2022 Level Testing sessions.

Thursday, September 22, 2022 (Milwaukee, WI USA) Trailblazer's Center Summer Spent at DRG: The center for the NBA's Portland Trailblazers (and former member of the Milwaukee Bucks), Joel Przybilla, spent a good part of the past 3 months training at the Duke RUOFUS Kickboxing, Boxing & MMA Academy with Head Boxing Instructor & coach Scott Cushman.
Przybilla trained multiple times a week with Coach Cushman in an effort to develop greater core strength, increase foot speed and improve agility. In a feature article that appeared on the front page of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Sports section
yesterday, Przybilla said it was his personal trainer Todd Troxel who thought of contacting DRG after seeing many other collegiate and professional athletes getting great results from Boxing to help develop their abs, hip flexors and their core areas.
In regard to his Boxing workouts with Coach Cushman, Przybilla says he would "recommend it highly" and says he plans to be back as soon as the season ends. For those who have had chance to meet Joel, he is as down to earth as could be. Watch for Joel this season as the Trailblazers big man (7' 1", 245 lbs.) looks to continue to make a significant impact as one of the leagues top centers.

Wonderful Response For Barry Family Fund: The outpouring of support for displaced New Orleans, (LA) native Pat Barry and his family has been terrific to say the least, as evidenced by the growing amount donated to the Barry Family Fund.
Donations have been coming in from all parts of the world. A 50 euro note just arrived yesterday from a friend in Amsterdam, Holland whom Pat met while spending time training with the great K-1 champion Erneso Hoost at the city's famed Vos Gym. A gentleman called from Kansas City offering financial support.
Since the floods caused by Hurricane Katrina wiped out Pat's home and neighborhood, Milwaukee has become his new home and so far everything seems to be going pretty well. DRG members formed a bond with Pat from the moment he arrived in June of this year to begin training with Duke RUOFUS and the DRG fight team. Since then, the bond has only strengthened.
Pat is now part of the staff of Personal Trainers available through the Duke RUOFUS Academy and he's off to a great start. He has received nothing but rave reviews for his coaching style and great personality. Add to that his ability as a K-1 fighter and knowledgeable instructor, and you have a recipe for success that makes Milwaukee and the entire martial arts community lucky to have someone like Pat Barry.
Return the favor when you can with a donation to the Barry Family Fund, c/o Duke RUOFUS Kickboxing & Boxing Academy, 111 W. Virginia St., Milwaukee, WI 53204 or contact , Ad Cetera Sports, (414)
Saturday, September 10, 2022 (Milwaukee, WI USA) - Yellow Belt Graduates Pace September 2022 Level Testing: A spirited Duke RUOFUS Kickboxing & Boxing Academy Kid's Class saw seven of it's members pass their Yellow Belt testing as part of a class of 18 graduates who tested on Thursday, September 8th and earlier today.
The junior academy members were required to run through a series of drills designed to show competency of shin style kicking, knee and elbow strikes and punching, in addition to proper stance, footwook and defense. The testing session was fast paced and physical, but each student was up to the challenge that Head Coach Duke RUOFUS and Coach Charmaine Tweet delivered.
It was nice to see all of the parents who attended the Yellow Belt testing session. One could easily tell that Coach Tweet has been doing a fantastic job with her future Kickboxing superstars as demonstrated by their solid performance.
In adult Level Testing, Rick Albidress (right) joined the prestigious list of Duke RUOFUS Academy Level 3 Kickboxing graduates, pushing himself through 8 total rounds, including 3 fast-paced sparring rounds with 3-Time US Amateur Kickboxing Champion Casey Garza. As the test is designed to be tough, Albidress had to dig deep mentally and physically, but he was up to the challenge and graduated to Level 3 Kickboxing with an admirable performance.
Once again, congratulations to all of the Yellow Belt and Level Testing graduates who passed their skills competency exams in September 2022. You each brought the determination and commitment necessary to accomplish your goal. Keep up the hard work.
Special thanks to Coach Scott Cushman for assisting with the September 2022 Level Testing sessions.

Tuesday, September 6, 2022 (Milwaukee, WI USA) - LOCAL RELIEF FUND STARTED FOR K-1 FIGHTER PAT BARRY AND FAMILY: The force and devastation from Hurricane Katrina hit home full
force for K-1 Kickboxer and New Orleans native Pat Barry and his immediate family last week.
The family's New Orleans East residence was destroyed by Katrina, and Pat (right), thinking that he'd have a house (and his belongings) to come back to after evacuating the city, left with only his clothes on his back, his automobile (the transmission blew five days ago in the midst of the evacuation) and an athletic bag full of his training equipment. Nothing more.
That is what he owns today.
Pat's mother Laverne and step-father Elwood Fleming, along with his sister Denise and brother Andrew, are living miles away out of a hotel room in Lake Charles, (LA). For now it's home, but the family has been turned upside down. No one has really had a chance to fully assess and realize the harsh, stark reality of the situation. It's one of those things people say "it's tough to get your whole mind around," even if you just lived through what is now being called the "worst natural disaster" in U.S. history.
Pat became part of the Duke RUOFUS Kickboxing & Boxing Academy family a few months back after he met with Duke RUOFUS and his business partner Scott Joffe in New Orleans and got a feel for the style of training and coaching Duke could provide.
Shortly thereafter, Pat started training with Duke in Milwaukee to help further his professional Kickboxing aspirations and, more specifically, to notch his first K-1 victory after coming up on the losing end of a hard fought, unanimous decision tilt April 30th in Las Vegas to California's Scott Lighty (second place finisher of K-1's August 13th "Mayhem at the Mirage" 8-Man Tournament).
Pat spent seven weeks training in Milwaukee and did indeed, on August 13th in Las Vegas, earn his first K-1 victory with a first round TKO over Atlanta, Georgia's Mark Selbee (who possesses a seven inch height advantage and the current IKF Super Heavyweight Kickboxing Title).
Training daily with the Duke RUOFUS Team and amongst the members gave Pat a chance to really get to know many of the genuinely gracious and certainly colorful personalities that form the nucleus of the family atmosphere cultivated at the school. As Duke RUOFUS student Manual Rocha was recently quoted as saying in the August 25th edition of the Milwaukee Business Journal, "What's unique (is) the sense you belong to something special." Pat couldn't have known how true those words would become to him less than a week later.
Feeling that the city now holds a special place in his heart as well, Pat decided to relocate to Milwaukee, saying he knew "this was the place (for me) to go, I just felt the warmth and knew." For now, Duke RUOFUS and his fiance Tami Brown have opened their home to Pat and many others have began asking what can they do to help.
In response, the Duke RUOFUS Academy is starting the "Barry Family Fund," with 100% of all donations of money, clothing, furnishings and any other type of aid going directly to Pat and his family. This is an excellent opportunity to make sure your donation goes directly to someone displaced and forever affected by this life-changing act of Mother Nature.
Persons interested in donating can contact Scott Joffe at (414) 305-3474 or via Email at .
Donations to the "Barry Family Fund" may also be sent c/o Duke RUOFUS Academy, 111 W. Virginia St., Milwaukee, WI 53204, (414) 319-1151. Donations may also be made with Mastercard and Visa credit and debit cards in person, over the phone or via Email.
Here is a chance to shown once again that Northern hospitality is just as abundant as it's proud Southern cousin. All members, family and friends of the Duke RUOFUS Academy family are urged to open their hearts for a cause that's beyond good.
For more information, please contact Scott Joffe, Ad Cetera Sports, (414) 305-3474.
Tuesday, August 30, 2022 (Milwaukee, WI USA) - No Work On Labor Day: The Duke RUOFUS Kickboxing & Boxing Academy will be closed Saturday and Monday, September 3rd & 5th in observance of the Labor Day holiday weekend. The school will reopen as scheduled on Tuesday, September 6th for all adult and children's classes.
For additional information, please call (414) 305-3474.
At the Forefront of Our Minds: Duke RUOFUS Academy members and friends in our thoughts today include Jeremiah Cady (right), who reenlisted in the Army and begins Basic Training this week. He is very excited to be joining his brother (who just returned to action after being injured by shrapnel) in Iraq and credits his Kickboxing training with helping him get into shape for the challenge. We wish them both a very safe return.
Here's to a speedy recovery for Liz Haight as she recuperates from her recent elective surgery. We know she wants to get back in the gym and hope to see training again as soon as possible.
Back in June of this year, Duke RUOFUS and Scott Joffe had the unique opportunity to experience the beautiful scenery along I-10 as the pair drove from New Orleans to the Biloxi/Gulfport area of southern Mississippi. In town to assist their colleagues with an FFC event, conduct a seminar and take care of some other related business, the trip each way was filled with sunshine and the weather stayed perfect throughout their travels. Duke and Scott saw the area at it's best.
Such is not the case today as Hurricane Katrina just wiped out virtually all of the structures, caused massive flooding and uprooted the earth along the lush coastline, leaving countless homeless, without power, food or clothing. Nothing so devastating should ever happen to anyone, but it does as Mother Nature proves once again that there is no greater force than she.
So far, all of our friends and associates in the area, along with their families, are safe, but the same can not be said for their homes and possessions. Everyone that has been reached by phone has reported some type of tremendous loss of property. Homes destroyed bit-by-bit as the hurricane force winds whipped around and through their neighborhoods, eventually reducing mostly everything around to piles of nothingness.
The American Red Cross is accepting donations that will go directly to those in need living in these areas. You can donate online or call (800) 435-7669. If not a donation to the Red Cross, then please do something that makes a difference.
Thursday, August 18, 2022 (Milwaukee, WI USA) - Barry Victorious While Weickhardt Shines: Patrick "Get Hype" Barry (left) came from New Orleans, (LA) to Milwaukee for one reason, to train with Duke RUOFUS in an effort to improve his stand-up fighting skills.
After suffering a close loss by decision to California's Scott Lighty this past April in a K-1 USA undercard bout, Barry decided that spending some quality time at Wisconsin's top facility was just what he needed to get back on the winning track. This past Saturday night in Las Vegas he did just that.
Fighting on K-1's "Mayhem at the Mirage" supercard, Barry needed a little less than 1 round to dispatch Atlanta's Mark Selbee, the IKF Super Heavyweight Kickboxing Champion, by TKO. Selbee couldn't beat the referee's 10 count after hitting the canvas from a solid right that Barry placed firmly on his taller opponent's jaw (the Nevada State Athletic Commission had Selbee listed at 6' 6" and Barry at 5" 11").
After spending the first part of the round getting a feel for Selbee's style and tendencies, Barry negated the height advantage with a couple of high impact shin kicks that crushed into Selbee's thighs and from there the tall tree started to topple. It was just a (short) matter of time before Barry landed the punch that would signal his return and prove that the reality is worthy of the hype.
• Duke RUOFUS trained fighter Ben "Berzerker" Rothwell (right) of Kenosha, (WI) served as K-1's official reserve fighter for their 8-man tournament and was waiting "at the ready" backstage. Though he didn't fight, Rothwell still received the K-1 royal treatment bestowed upon all who compete on these prestigious events.
• Also making his mark this past weekend in Las Vegas was Duke RUOFUS Competition Team member Kyle Weickhardt (left) of Brookfield, (WI) who participated in K-1's open tryouts held at the Mirage Resort & Entertainment Complex.
Over 130 athletes took part in the initial tryout sessions and when the dust settled and the judges (which included some of the Japan's most powerful decision makers, plus Kickboxing superstars Ray Sefo and Garry "Big Daddy" Goodrich) had a chance to double check their notes and confer with each other, Kyle (who is still an amateur) emerged as one of the top finishing finalists!
What an accomplishment, considering that Kyle was one of the lightest (192) Heavyweight's to tryout with the "big bombers" class. The Japanese representatives complimented him on his wonderfully controlled, but highly effective sparring technique and delivered kudos to Duke, as well, for training Kyle to the level they were so impressed by.
Kyle proved that hard, consistent training, a solid work ethic and proper, smart technique coupled with controlled aggression can beat bulk and brawn hands down anytime. Keep your eyes open for Kyle as he continues on his rise to be the best. Fans will be able to see him compete next when he appears on the "Colosseum Returns" Kickboxing & MMA show scheduled for Friday, October 21st in Milwaukee's Ramada Grand Ballroom.
• When it's Time To Relax, Grab a Fat Sandwich: Milwaukee's top band for slammin' jams, Fat Sandwich (featuring DRG student Mark Samman on guitar and vocals) stops at Zoo ala Carte on Friday, August 19th for an all out dancin' show at the Flamingo Stage from 6:30-10:00 pm and then.... Saturday, August 20th, it's Fat Sandwich, The Goo Goo Dolls and Bon Jovi playing for FREE to celebrate Miller Brewing Company's 150th Anniversary Big Brew-Ha at Miller Park!!!
• Tickets may now be reserved by calling (414) 967-7767 for the next Gladiators Kickboxing Series show "Colosseum Returns" set for Friday, October 21st in Milwaukee's Ramada Grand Ballroom, 6401 South 13th Street. The show starts at 8:00 pm, doors open at 6:00 pm.
Over 12 bouts are planned and will feature some of the most exciting professional and amateur Kickboxing and MMA in the country. More information and a complete bout lineup will be available in the weeks to come at the Gladiators Fighting Series official website.
Persons interested in competing on the October 21st show should contact Duke RUOFUS at (414) 403-3853 or via .
Tuesday, August 9, 2022 (Milwaukee, WI USA) - Bonnar a Smash on Spike: UFC star Stephan Bonnar (left) was victorious in his match with Sam Hogar this past Saturday night on a special primetime UFC show broadcast worldwide on Spike TV. In what was considered by many to be the "fight-of-the-night," Bonnar won by unanimous decision in a hard fought showdown between two of the sports more colorful light heavyweights.
Bonnar honed his standup fighting skills training with Duke RUOFUS and the rest of the DRG competition team in the months preceding this bout. The hard work was most evident in the crisp knee work Bonnar exhibited in the 3 round, action packed bout.
Bonnar, as fans well remember, lost by a close decision on Spike TV's "The Ultimate Fighter" hit reality show's season ending championship bout to Forrest Griffin in a battle for the ages, but Dana White, president of the UFC was so appreciative of Bonnar's efforts, he signed the Hammond, (IN) native to the same six figure contract that Griffin was offered.
Next up on the Duke RUOFUS Competition Team schedule, Las Vegas, (NV) and K-1 USA's "Mayhem at the Mirage," this upcoming Saturday, August 13th as DRG trained fighters Patrick "Get Hype" Barry of New Orleans, (LA) and Kenosha, Wisconsin's Ben "Berserker" Rothwell get a chance to show their best stuff in front of the K-1 faithful who travel to Nevada from every corner of the globe to witness one of the Kickboxing's greatest spectacles.
"Mayhem at the Mirage" will be shown live Saturday night on Pay-per-view, please check your local listing for exact show times.
Tuesday, July 12, 2022 (Milwaukee, WI USA) - Fighters Flock to Milwaukee for Training: With important fights looming in the near future for each, three of the country's rising stars of Kickboxing and Mixed Martial Arts have converged on Milwaukee to train with legendary fighter and trainer Duke RUOFUS at his renowned midwest facility.
Stephan Bonnar works pads
with Duke RUOFUS as
Ben Rothwell trains in the foreground.Stephan Bonnar, star of SpikeTV's "The Ultimate Fighter" reality television show who was inked to a six figure contract by the UFC at the conclusion of the show's first season, is training regularly alongside K-1 discovery Pat Barry and the multi-faceted MMA/Kickboxing talent Ben "Berserker" Rothwell as part of RUOFUS' fighter training camp.
Bonnar's next bout will be televised live on SpikeTV, Saturday evening, August 6th from the Cox Center in Las Vegas. It is a special show produced by SpikeTV and the UFC to kickoff "The Ultimate Fighter's" second season. Bonnar, who is jointly trained by the world renowned jiu-jitsu/grappling specialist Carlson Gracie in Chicago (IL) takes on Sam Hogar, who also was a star of "The Ultimate Fighter's" first season.
Duke keeps watch while Jason Wetzel, Stephan Bonnar, Kyle Weickhardt
and Pat Barry train.Bonnar, as fans well remember, lost by a close decision in the reality show's season ending championship bout to Forrest Griffin in a battle for the ages, but Dana White, president of the UFC was so appreciative of Bonnar's efforts, he signed the Hammond, (IN) native to the same six figure contract that Griffin was offered.
Barry, a native of New Orleans, (LA), was discovered at the 2004 K-1 USA talent search and lost a close, reserve bout split decision to Scott Lighty at the last K-1, April 30th in Las Vegas. Barry fights for K-1 again Saturday, August 13th at the Mirage Resort Casino in Las Vegas along with Rothwell, a well established MMA fighter from Kenosha, (WI), who got a good taste for K-1 rules fighting with his unanimous decision victory over Japan's Nobu Hayashi on a Shoot Boxing card in January of this year in Hayashi's home country.
Duke RUOFUS Competition TeamBarry has trained at various gyms in the past, including high end training with some of K-1's best in Amsterdam, Holland. Rothwell is also a member of the Pat Miletich Fighting System's Team, specialists in mixed martial arts and ground fighting techniques.
Opponents have yet to be named for Barry or Rothwell by K-1 matchmakers at this time. "King of the Gladiators II" Champion "Lightning" MIke Sheppard has been mentioned as a possibility who could match up well with Barry or Rothwell.
While none of the fighters knew the other would be there, all are glad they made the effort to get to RUOFUS' Milwaukee based fighter's camp. Rare is the chance for a heavyweight to have so many other top heavys to train and spar with on a daily basis. RUOFUS loves the training atmosphere that's evolved and the respect that each fighter shows the other is obvious, and appreciated, as Duke's sessions can get very intense at times.
Tenacity and toughness is a must, as is maturity and a keen sense of sportsmanship amongst the competitors. RUOFUS knows exactly what buttons to push to get the most out of a person who wants to take their game to the next level. And push them he does.
For Stephan Bonnar, Pat Barry and Ben Rothwell, the summer of 2022 could be remembered as the one that galvanized winning careers and solidified lifetime friendships.
For Duke RUOFUS, who just got engaged to his longtime girlfriend and supporter Tami Brown (after defeating Sinisa Andrijasevic in front of a packed house on the Gladiators "Return to Colosseum" show June 3rd in Milwaukee) and who's younger brother Kelly just got married, the summer of 2022 already has gone down as one of the best ever, with things getting better every day.
Tuesday, June 28, 2022 (Milwaukee, WI USA) - Enjoy the Fireworks: In recognition of the Fourth of July holiday weekend, the Duke RUOFUS Kickboxing & Boxing Academy will be closed on Saturday and Monday, July 2nd and 4th.
The school will reopen as usual on Tuesday, July 5th at 5:00 p.m. On behalf of all the employees of the Duke RUOFUS Kickboxing & Boxing Academy, have a very happy, healthy, safe and fun Fourth of July holiday weekend.
Monday, June 27, 2022 (Milwaukee, WI USA) - Graduates Heat Up June Level Testing: Congratulations to the Duke RUOFUS Kickboxing & Boxing Academy students who passed their Level 1 Muaythai Kickboxing or Boxing Tests on Thursday, June 23rd and Saturday, June 25th.
Once again, many of the students who aspire to get in the ring someday, brought their "A-game" with them to the June Level Testing sessions. Skill and youthful enthusiasm was in abundance as those in attendance got a glimpse of some potential stars of tomorrow.
Once again, congratulations to all of the Level Testing graduates who passed their skills competency exams in June 2022. You each brought the determination and commitment necessary to accomplish your June Level testing goal. Keep up the hard work.
Special thanks, as always, to Coach Scott Cushman for assisting with the June Level Testing sessions.

Friday, June 24, 2022 (Milwaukee, WI USA) - Men At Work: Fresh off the heals of their June 3rd Heavyweight Gladiators "Return to Colosseum" Kickboxing & MMA screamer at Milwaukee's Ramada Convention Center, Duke RUOFUS and Scott Joffe haven't had a second to slow down and savor the moment.
Over the past few weeks, the pair's travels took them to Houston (TX), Gulfport, Biloxi and Kiln (MS), New Orleans, Slidell and Metairie (LA), and Newark (NJ), with Joffe also traveling to Green Bay and Minocqua (WI), as well.
RUOFUS was the color commentator and Joffe an event judge for the "KINGS - Evolution of Kickboxing" show held Saturday, June 11th at Gulfport's beautiful Grand Casino Convention Center.
On Sunday afternoon, June 12th, Duke conducted a Muaythai Kickboxing seminar at Lawrence Franklin's (left, back row, center) Golden Dragon Gym in Slidell. KINGS promoter Rob Braniff (left, kneeling) was also in attendance.
Duke taught the students some of the finer points of training and performance, working on balance, technique, breathing, speed and efficiency for the majority of the afternoon.
Along the way, the two took time to visit a few old friend's, Stevie and Mable Haas, owners of the Favre family's favorite hometown watering hole, Kiln's famous Broke Spoke saloon.
Legendary among Green Bay Packer fans, the walls are adorned with green & gold memorabilia galore, from autographs & photographs to cheesehead undergarments, it's a southern style shrine to Lambeau's legends. Mable Haas (left with Duke and at right in the middle) took a moment to pose with the guys before they headed off to the "Big Easy."
On Monday, Duke took rising K-1 USA star Patrick Berry through a technical workout and then Scott and Duke held meetings with longtime Metairie promoter and well-known gym owner Joe Ancona, who took them to the wonderful O and J's Pizzeria & Seafood restaurant for what turned out to be the best meal of the trip.
The weekend of Friday and Saturday, June 17th and 18th featured an event that Joffe, along with his wife Allison, always look forward to participating in, the "Casting Light Upon the Waters" Partner's Fishing Outing. This year the event was held on one of the world's most coveted fishing locals, the pristine lakes that comprise the "Lac du Flambeau" area near Minocqua.
The partner's host a series of yearly meetings and events designed to foster better understanding and solid relationships between members of Northern Wisconsin's Indian tribes, the Department of Natural Resources and the Department of Interior - Bureau of Indian Affairs.
For the past 7 years, Ad Cetera Sports Celebrities has been asked to supply a member of the Green Bay Packers football team to come along on the 2-day guided fishing outing. This year the group hosted Packer's star Defensive End Kabeer Gbaja- Biamila ("KGB"), who caught a few legal sized walleye which his guide cleaned for the amiable player to enjoy later back in Green Bay.
Last year, the partner's fished alongside Lambeau Legends and Packer greats Jerry Kramer and Fuzzy Thurston. Other notable players that have hung a hook in the wonderful waters of Wisconsin include Ahman Green, William Henderson, Donald Driver and Ryan Longwell. Discover Wisconsin Productions records the event for inclusion in an upcoming episode of their weekly statewide television show, "Discover Wisconsin."
Joffe (at right with KGB) made special note to thank Robert Jackson of the Department of Interior and Mark Rose of Discover Wisconsin Productions for their great hospitality and the St. Croix rod & reel set he was presented by the group. The Joffe's guide, "D.J." caught the biggest overall fish of the event, a 34" tiger musky (that he released) and also earned himself a nice St. Croix rod & reel, as well.
Hot Time, Summer In The City: Never one to let a bit of traveling get in the way, Duke is also working behind the scenes organizing "Big" Ben Rothwell's (left) participation in the August 13th K-1 "Mayhem at the Mirage." Rothwell is a relative newcomer on the Kickboxing circuit, but has become well-known for his toughness and durability as a mixed martial arts fighter amongst MMA/Pride/UFC fans.
Who then, as Duke's summer begins to really heat up, should walk unannounced into the gym a few days later than one of the current stars of Spike-TV's The Ultimate Fighter hit television show, Stephan Bonnar. He lives just down the road in Chicago and thought nothing of driving the 1.5 hours to see if Duke was in, which he was and gladly worked Bonnar into the fighter training class.
Bonnar (in white top, pictured at left and right training with Duke) lost by decision on the show's season finale championship bout, but UFC President Dana White was so impressed with Bonnar's performance and as a show of appreciation, White offered Bonnar the same six-figure fighter contract that the winner received.
Now, Bonnar seeks Duke's help in refining what already is a potent, proven, well-liked product. Bonnar's natural good looks and refreshing attitude (he's nice and funny) paired with his natural athleticism, never-surrender heart and unyielding desire could easily establish him as a bone fide player in the highest ranks of the UFC.
Bonnar's (with the crew at left) next UFC bout is mid August in Las Vegas, a desert city with daytime temps that climb well over 100 degrees this time of year, the perfect place for those who thrive on days that just keep getting hotter and hotter.
It's anyone's guess what may happen with any of these talented fighters or what the future may hold, but rest assured Duke RUOFUS is more than willing to sweat it out through what's quickly becoming one, long hot summer. Who could ask for anything more.
Saturday, June 4, 2022 (Milwaukee, WI USA) - RUOFUS Earns Vendetta Victory: Duke RUOFUS left no doubt in anyone's mind that he came to fight when he entered the ring last night in Milwaukee to face Croatia's talented Sinisa "Thunderman" Andrijasevic in the Heavyweight Gladiators "Return To Colosseum" Main Event.
With Papa Roach's "Last Resort" blasting at full tilt, bone rattling volume, the crowd went absolutely berserk when Duke entered the Colosseum. As the bearer of the American flag leading the procession proudly waved it back and forth the standing room only crowd erupted in chants of "Duke!, Duke!, Duke!, Duke!" and "U.S.A.!, U.S.A.!, U.S.A.!, U.S.A.!"
Once the battle began, it was easy to see that Duke had indeed been paired with a worthy opponent. For 5 full rounds they would go toe-to-toe, slamming each other with vicious low kicks that would cripple most people and punches that would toast the rest.
The crowd was on their feet the entire bout, watching in awe as these two sportsmen literally smashed the living daylights out of each other repeatedly and quite often. RUOFUS mentioned that when he "heard the crowd chanting (his name)" he got especially pumped up. He would not disappoint tonight he thought, no way, no how.
If this was to be the final and last time Duke RUOFUS would fight competitively as a professional Kickboxer, he wanted to make sure he left every ounce of his legendary career in the ring, and not a drop less.
In the end, RUOFUS had in the true sense of the word, "earned" his vendetta victory by Unanimous Decision. The hometown crowd had witnessed a war and both fighters bore the injuries that come with such combat.
While one judge had it all RUOFUS, most in attendance would agree with the other two who gave a round or two to the tough, valiant Andrijasevic.
After the bout, RUOFUS proposed to his longtime girlfriend and ardent supporter, Tami Brown, who accepted his invitation to begin the next chapter of their life as one. RUOFUS also thanked the legion of his longtime Milwaukee fans and sponsors who came out to see the man they call "Duke."
Here is a complete accounting of the event as written by the President of the International Kickboxing Federation, Mr. Steve Fossum:
"Return to Colosseum" - Returns Glory To The Sport!
(Milwaukee Wisconsin, USA) IKF - ISCF Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA: We need to admit, we are a bit upset... For the last several weeks we have been bragging about what a great show we just attended. However, EVERY week we seem to attend yet another great show which forces us to say once again, something like, "WOW, did you ever miss a great event if you were not here tonight!" or, "We just witnessed a packed house, standing room only!"
Well, it appears our sport is picking up steam through the work of IKF promoters like Scott Joffe and Duke RUOFUS among the many other IKF Promoters we work with around the globe. Sellout venues are starting to be "Normal" as was tonight, and this sport just keeps getting better and better! From where we sit, it's clear that we're making our way back to the "Glory Days" of the sports past through the hard work of many. We thought people were saying this sport was dead... WOW, what a night those folks missed in Milwaukee last night!
Last night, IKF Promoters Scott Joffe and Duke RUOFUS hosted yet another one of their Heavyweight Gladiators events and simply put, these guys need a bigger venue. This one was entitled Return to Colosseum and was held at the Ramada Inn Grand Ballroom, in Milwaukee Wisconsin, USA.
The event started off with what RUOFUS and Joffe call the "Awesome Amateurs" and that they were. There were 8 "Exhibition" - Awesome Amateur bouts that was served as an appetizer to the main card.
The main card featured 4 Amateur modified Muay Thai bouts, 3 Professional modified Muay Thai bouts and one Professional Woman's ISCF Mixed Martial Art bout. Without wasting any more of your valuable time, lets jump right in and go to the results.
BOUT 1
Amateur Modified MTR, Middleweight: Sean Douglas of Elmhurst, Illinois, USA (1-0/0, 164, 5'9", 21, 5-24-83, Joe Schlotterer, (630) 730-4965) defeated Vince Tobias of Kenosha, Wisconsin, USA (0-1/0, 165, 5'11", 29, 9-2-75, Kevin Grissom, (262) 652-5449) by unanimous decision 30-27 on all 3 judges cards.
BOUT 2
Amateur Modified MTR, Light Welterweight: Dan "The Savage" Lasavage of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA (1-0/1, 138, 5'7", 21, 6-7-83, Duke RUOFUS, (414) 319-1151) defeated Matt Conley of Kenosha, Wisconsin, USA (0-1/0, 134, 5'7", 29, 10-27-75, Kevin Grissom, (262) 652-5449) by TKO at 1:27 of round 2.
This bout was all Lasavage' from the start. Lasavage forced a standing 8 count by referee Al Wichgers on Conley in round 1 and if not for the ropes saving Conley from falling to the canvas at the end of round 1 Lasavage would have scored 2, 8 counts. It was a hard right hand by Lasavage that would knock Conley down to end it in round 2.
BOUT 3
Amateur Modified MTR, Cruiserweight: Kyle "Wicked" Weickhardt of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA (5-1/1, 186, 6'1", 19, 1-21-86, Duke RUOFUS, (414) 319-1151) defeated Bryan Kovar of Elmhurst, Illinois, USA (1-1/1, 193, 6', 23, 1-11-82, Joe Schlotterer, (630) 730-4965) by majority decision, 29-29, 29-28 and 29-27.Kovar took a hard body kick from Weickhardt and the force of the blow took him down forcing referee Al Wichgers to give him a standing 8 count. All 3 judges gave round 1 to Weickhardt.
Kovar fought back and won round 2 on all 3 judges cards. Round 3 had one judge for Kovar while the other two scored it for Weickhardt. Simply put, this bout was so close it could have easily went Kovar's way who kept aggressive in all 3 rounds.
BOUT 4
Amateur Modified MTR, Super Middleweight: Tom Grimmer of Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA (11-1/6, 172, 6'1", 25, 7-6-79, Oscar Medina, (262) 524-9799) defeated Chase Green of Rockford, Illinois, USA (6-1/4, 171, 6'1", 21, 6-20-83, Bryce Franke, (815) 988-1908) by Knockout at 1:56 of round 3.
Green was hit with a strong right hand in round 1 that forced referee Al Wichgers to give him a standing 8 count. In round 2 Green took a strong leg kick to his right thigh that dropped him for another 8 count. Finally in round 3, Grimmer hit Green with a strong knee to his body that dropped him making Wichgers call the bout at 1:56 of round 3.
BOUT 5
Pro Modified MTR, Heavyweight: Alex "The Lumberjack" Beck of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA (9-1/5, 232, 6'2", 27, 10-7-77, Mark Miller, (330) 324-3034) defeated Ahmad "The Bounty Hunter" Hafez Indianapolis, Indiana, USA (7-1/4, 255, 6'6", 39, 11-5-66, Jamal Abdul, (317) 294-4206) by TKO at 1:19 of round 3.
Beck was making his professional debut and if looks were the telling of the future, Beck looked to be ready to lose to a much taller and much heavier Hafez. However from round 1 on, Hefez' bark, or 'Look' was much more fearing than his bite. Instead of using his reach, Hafez instead choose to fight a clinch game which cost him through all 3 rounds. In addition, when Beck took to a punching game Hafez was unable to block Beck's punches as Hafez cringed with every punch he took. By the end of round 2 Hafez looked gassed. As round 3 started he was unable to put up much of an attack and finally, at 1:19 of round 3, a tired and ineffective Hafez was done.
BOUT 6
ISCF Professional Woman's MMA, 3 Rounds: Jen "Genetic Wonder" Case of Clay Center, Topeka, Kansas, USA (3-0, 152, 5'7", 22, 6-14-82, Steve Twlmlow, (785) 273-4343) defeated Greta "Mo Betta" Hicks of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA (PMMA: 1-2, AMMA: 1-0, 155, 5'10", 29, 2-26-76, Adrian Serano, (414) 305-1135) by rear choke submission at 2:18 of round 1 of the scheduled 3 round bout.
BOUT 7
Pro Modified MTR, Heavyweight: Manson "The MasterBlaster" Gibson (left) of Chicago, Illinois, USA (103-9-2-63, 200, 5'11", 44, 5-10-61, Eddie Abby, (708) 212-2554) defeated Horace "The Real Deal" Craft (right) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA (27-15-1/14, 227, 6'1", 44, 1-29-61, Self, (414) 744-2575) by 3 knockdown rule (TKO) at 2:17 of the first of 5 scheduled 3 minute rounds.
WOW! First off, if anyone was thinking the legend of Kickboxing Superstar Manson "The MasterBlaster" Gibson is all but done at age 44, you need to think again... And maybe use a video of this bout to determine your final decision before putting your foot in your mouth.Gibson had to gain 10 lbs. to take this fight (He wants to stay and fight at 190 lbs.) against Craft, and although it showed as extra weight, Gibson moved like an 'In his prime' Manson "The MasterBlaster" Gibson that kept us excited and amazed during his career.
From the opening bell Gibson proceeded to take apart Craft with his exciting fighting style. First Gibson dropped Craft to the canvas with a wicked and explosively powerful left hook. However as quickly as referee Al Wichgers took 2 steps back after administering a standing 8 count to Craft, Gibson closed the gap between him and Craft and let go a perfect spinning hook kick that landed square on Craft's jaw dropping him again to the canvas again. By this time the crowd was in AHHH!!!
Still, Gibson wasn't done with his performance of the night. Gibson stalked down Craft after he got his second standing 8 count and once again, landed that explosive left hook dropping Craft to the canvas for his 3rd time at 2:17 of round 1.However, Gibson was not done yet. When the bout was called, he did a standing back flip! Remember, Gibson is 44! However, referee Al Wichgers didn't see him do it. So after Wichgers raised Gibson's hand in victory, he asked him, "Aren't you going to do your back flip?" Gibson was all for an encore where he gladly performed another one! WOW! Did we already say that? Hey, did we also already mention this "EXPLOSIVE" fighter is 44?
Time will tell what's next for the "EIGHT" Time World Champion Gibson who has gotten pretty use to winning. So much that he may even find himself saying often enough, "Been there, done that" after nights like tonight where he recorded his 103rd victory. The chances are far more than good that he will get that shot at the IKF World Title later this year...
MAIN EVENT: Professional Modified MTR, Super Heavyweight
Duke RUOFUS (left), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA (34-6/25, 245, 6'2", 35, 2-19-70, Master Toddy & Stan Johnson, (414) 319-1151)defeated Sinisa "Thunderman" Andrijasevic (Below Right) of Split, Croatia (P: 40-10-1/27, A: 150-6/60, 205, 6', 36, 8-21-68, Gordan Vatvuk) by unanimous decision, 48-47, 50-45 and 49-46.
When your in Milwaukee Wisconsin, USA, one thing is for sure. You only root for one football team, the PACKERS (Professional Football Team). If your not a Packer fan in Lambeau Field (The homefield for the Packers) on game Sunday, you may find yourself stuffed and crammed into the cracks between the seats after one clap for the opposing team.
Before we go on, you need to embrace one important fact here, Passion runs strong and deep in Packer country and the same passion carries over into other sports, especially Kickboxing! If you are not the hometown fighter in Wisconsin, you need to understand... It's nothing personal, but the Wisconsin fans HATE YOU! Not because of who you are or where your from. Heck, they would probably like you after Game Sunday (Or in this case, Game Friday night) and even buy you a beer. It's no different in other parts of the world. The hometown fans just don't like you because your not one of them. Remember, Passion runs strong in Packer Country. Some of you may not get this, but hopefully you do.
Such was the case when Sinisa "Thunderman" Andrijasevic (right) of Split, Croatia came to the ring to the song THUNDERSTRUCK! The music rocked, the lights flashed and the Croatia flag waived... But it wasn't a Packer flag, or in this case, it wasn't the Stars and Stripes of the USA. There were Booo's and Hissess from the crowd as if the mighty Packers were playing the Vikings in the NFC Championship game! It was clear, this fight was going to have strong fan participation!
Those Booo's and Hissess changed to cheers and yells as hometown fighter Duke RUOFUS made his way to the ring. RUOFUS hasn't kept it a secret what has been on his mind for several years. In 1999, RUOFUS lost to Andrijasevic in a controversial bout in Trieste, Italy when he was injured when Andrijasevic used an illegal judo-style hip throw in the second round. The confused WKA referee was giving RUOFUS time to recover when, after some commotion at ringside, he suddenly started a 10-count. RUOFUS staggered to his feet at the count of nine, but Andrijasevic pounced on him and quickly ended the contest. "It was pretty controversial," RUOFUS said. "I've lost to some good fighters, but the way this fight went down, it was a cheap shot." Simply put, this was about sweet REVENGE!
After seeing the explosive performance of Manson "The MasterBlaster" Gibson many of us wondered if this bout would have as much to talk about. Well, RUOFUS and Andrijasevic made sure to win the award of the "Best Bout of the Night" as these two Gladiators banged each other for 5 solid rounds.
One thing is for sure, Andrijasevic is TOUGH AS Granite! RUOFUS blasted him with some solid shots and Andrijasevic took them all. However, Andrijasevic was no light attack either. He worked on RUOFUS' ribs and snapped shots to his head with explosive quickness throughout the bout. RUOFUS mixed up his attack with high kicks and even a spinning backfist during the fight. It was toe to toe action that had each of us saying after each round, "I'm glad I'm not a judge to determine who to give that round to.
When the final bell rang and the dust cleared, no one could disagree that Andrijasevic had "Earned" the respect of everyone in attendance. Attendance? Oh ya, did we already mention that the house was packed with standing room only!
When we went to the scorecards, no one was fully confident RUOFUS would win his revenge match, but he did by unanimous decision, 48-47, 50-45 and 49-46. Although we didn't agree with the score of 50-45, we do agree, this was a very close and great bout to end the night with. In the excitement of the decision, RUOFUS did what he's been wanting to do for some time. He asked his girlfriend Tami to marry him. Making it even better for him, she said "I will." Sorry Manson, but I do believe the Dukster might pull out a close victory with that over your backflip... Oh wait, we forgot, you did TWO backflips...
Even Duke will relinquish the award of top move of the night to Gibson, and why not. He and co-promoter Scott Joffe had sold out the house, he won his revenge match in a WAR of a fight, and in the end, rode off in the night with his girl. Congratulations to you both Duke and Tami. And Thank You to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for an awesome event! We look forward to the next one coming October 8th.
Scott Joffe, Duke RUOFUS and the IKF would also like to add a special Thank You to all the participating gyms who were a part of this event.
